Catelyn

Catelyn (pg 49-56)
Catelyn is the wife of the Lord Stark of Winterfell. In this chapter Ned is to decide whether he will accept the Kings offer to become his hand, leave the place he and his family has called home, and serve beside him. Catelyn describes their life together, it's apparent how much she cares for him and how he cares for her. She stands by him and keeps him strong; even when she is weak, Catelyn stands strong for her husband. She challenges him and will stand for what she believes in her own right. Ned doesn't puts their needs above those of the kingdom and Catelyn sometimes fails to understand this.

Catelyn's chapter is important because this viewpoint averts the path of the book. Now there's other important things to consider about their rule, as well as, the difficult but new challenges they will face, and the hope of bringing justice to the alleged murder of her dear sisters husband! Catelyn believes it is owed to her sister to seek out justice. Ned would have not known any of these speculations had it not been for the code Lysa and Catelyn created when they were young. Ned would have declined the Kings offer and left the Lady of Arryn on her own to defend her husbands honor. This chapter introduced the important role of a queen to her kingdom and also the saying "behind every great man stands a strong woman." In addition, the sacrifices a mother must make for her children, in the closing of this chapter Jon unknowingly alters the books path as well, he gave Catelyn hope in that she could still be under the protection of her beloved husband and their family won't be torn apart by the Kings request. I chose this chapter because the life of a queen is mostly a story unspoken. There is more to know about the king and not the pressures and sacrifices of the queen.
