This article talks about the relationships between violent video games, and youth violence. I enjoyed reading this article because it gives the history of gaming. When violence was first introduced to the gaming-world it allowed players the opportunity to become someone else, and never get in trouble for their actions. The first big game to raise a lot of publicity was Death Race in 1976. Shortly after many game designers moved their attention to what was trending in this fantasy world. The answer would soon be revealed, “we love violence.” This would revolutionize games completely. Everyone was trying to achieve the most realistic game play, where the person would actually feel as if they were there (first person). I think in some cases violent games do give bad people bad intensions in the right situation. Someone who is willing to do it in real life never needed a video game to push him or her into doing something evil. I think it would have happened down the road anyways. Personally I see video games as a stress relief, could be viewed differently by other.
Article 2: Weinstein, Harvey
This article was about Harvey Weinstein; a filmmaker that would vow to never produce a violent film again. It also goes into the amount of crime we have in this country, and compares it to other surrounding countries. We have “an estimated 89 firearms per 100 citizens.” And have the lowest level regulations on our firearm sales. I feel the same way about video games as I do with cinemas, the person committing these horrible crimes in real life cant put the blame on a fake visual. That person is just not right in the head, and is selfish for taking innocent lives.
Article 3: Columbine
“America loves to find an icon to hang its guilt
on.” This article was Marilyn Manson’s
voice after the Colorado school shooting. I really liked this read because he
took all views and pulled them together. How the showcase (shootings) wer broadcasted
on every news cannel didn’t even faze half the united state population. We were
more worried about our favorite shows. We all play a huge role in the change
this nation needs, we need to focus on making our selves better before judging
others. Maybe start highlighting more
positive things on the news, ever since I can remember death was on the television.
