Articles 1-3

The first article was about the relationship between violence in video games and violence in people. The study showed that increased gameplay of violent video games increased violence in teens. I have heard of this study before, and I don't really agree with the conclusion. I used to play a lot of video games both racing and games like call of duty but I don't really have the urge to go racing or shoot people. I think it comes down to kids being guided by parents when playing these games and realizing that it's a virtual reality they're in and not in real life

The second article was about how Weinstein was going to quit supporting violent movies like he has. The article explains that even if you cant relate the amount of media violence to violence in real life, the author says it does seem unhealthy. Even though he's made a lot of money on violent films, famously with his relationship with Tarantino, he says that he can't support the violence anymore because "that's not what he wants for his kids." The article then goes on to explain that we are a society filled with guns, being number one in privately owned firearms. However crime rates have been falling steadily whether or not we have guns or the amount of media violence. I again don't agree about the link between violence in movies and violence in real life. Proving that I feel is the statistics he provides in the article saying that crime rates are falling on a national scale despite the number of guns owned or violence seen in media.

The third article was Marilyn Manson's viewpoint on the shooting in Littleton, Colorado. He says that music is not the blame for the shooting(they were blaming his music). He says that people have always had a tendency for violence and uses the story of Cain as evidence. He says that everyone should be held responsible for their own actions and that the media just looks for a scapegoat so they can idolize the kids who did the killing, as well as other notorious criminals over the course of history. The main point of his article is to point out that we are to blame for our own actions and that killing is killing, whether it be in Vietnam or Jonesboro or Littleton. I liked this article because it was more personal and he was blaming people not the media. I'm in agreement because I think that people will do what they want to do and that media isn't what causes it. If you set a gun on a front porch it doesn't shoot somebody of its own will.
