Violent Video Games- This article was based on the findings of research tests on groups when they were exposed to violent video games and whether the impact was positive or negative. There are three types of studies: experimental, correlational, and longitudinal. In order for a study to be "conclusive" it can not be solely based on just one of the three studies. Meta-analysis (a combo of the three studies) is a technique used to draw general conclusions that aren't based on a single method of research. Many began to believe violent video games had a direct influence over school shootings, but they had failed to realize that the shooters had several risk factors for aggressive behavior. Lastly, the article goes on to talk about public policy, the three pillars of responsibility, how video games can be used as a tool for education and should not be viewed as an all good of all bad activity.
Weinstein and Tarantino: Weinstein, a long-time supporter and producer of Tarantino's violent films vows to back away from them altogether. He's passionate about what he sales, his company, and about the people and political causes he supports. O'Hehir believes before Weinstein decided to completely back away from violent films he gathered opinions and concerns from other producers as well as studi heads. Some of whom may share his concerns about violence in the media. In some aspects he broke the silence about this discussed topic of Hollywood filmmaking.
Columbine: Marilyn Manson speaks out on who really is responsible for violence in America. Is it religion which is our first form of entertainment, the news, or is it actually music? This article brings to light his real motives in his songs and how he is not afraid to inspire people to be creative and shows them it's okay to break the mold, don't always follow the program. "We're the people who sit back and tolerate children owning guns, and we're the ones who tune in and watch the up-to-the-minute details of what they do with them." He also goes into detail how the media makes criminals "folk heroes", by giving them the attention they went by putting them on every magazine and newspaper cover. With the evolution of the Internet there is no longer an escape from the "mall" that's now America.
I believe all three articles bring their own unique components of the similar argument about violence in the media. There is no set reason why they're there, but we all know violence will always be here! There may be ways to censor it and keep our children from experiencing it before their time. Entertainnt is not to blame for ones individual actions. Media also makes criminals the "heroes" of their time. It's up to us to determine what we think is right and what is wrong. Don't let some rich hypocrites decide your life for you.
